This is shocking seeing no one go back for malkin except green
A fair trade would of been
Backstrom + Green + 1st
For Malkin

This is shocking seeing no one go back for malkin except green A fair trade would of been Backstrom + Green + 1st For Malkin I respectfully disagree. Backstrom himself will put up nearly as much points as Malkin. Let alone Green on top of that. I think the deal is ok but Orpik tilts the trade. Malkin+1st or so for Green, Alzner, Knuble, Flash, Laich.

Wash may have given up a lot, but it's Malkin... MALKIN!!!! AND a first. The only problem is wash now is back at lacking in the D department from losing Alzner. Knuble's gone soon anyway.

Knuble's gone soon anyway. trading Malkin for depth up front is a good idea, also my defense is stacked. the first would be bottom 5 where the 2011 class is weak.

This trade basically comes down to Orpik for Alzner, which still might not be enough...and a 2nd, Green, Flash, a 40 yr old, Laich for Malkin AND a 1st? Terrible when you put it in perspective. The only way Malkin would be dealt is for a star winger+ or franchise D like Doughty or Weber. Green is not there but lets say he is, it wouldn't be done at that expense. Now consider the fact Penguins have similar D in Goli, Letang, Martin and Michalek, this trade is full of fail for the Pens imo. Caps make out like bandits considering they have Carlsson on D as well. Malkin+Backstrom as your top 2 centres and not to mention someone by the name of Ovie on the wing. Semin ain't too shabby either.

See everyone has a different take on it, so it can't be THAT one-sided.

The 1st will be a bottom 5 in the worst draft in the last 10 years, and Alzner will be better than Orpik.

Not to mention Green is a top-5 d-man in the NHL which in my book is a little more valued than a top-5 forward in the NHL, and at less cap hit.
I don't think Alzner will be better than Orpik, but pens does so i guess they just negate eachother.
